Her father Camilo was sent to work on the railroad in a small town between Deming and Lordsburg, New Mexico, a few miles from El Paso. They lived there from 1940 until 1945. After that, they moved to El Paso for a short while and then on to California. Living in Castroville for a short while with her dad's brother (one of twelve). From there they moved on to the San Joachin Valley, north of Los Angeles (a mostly farming area). In 19__ they moved to Earlimart where she lived until she got married.
