EARLY CHILDHOOD: Amelia was born at the Foard County Hospital in Crowell Texas. She is the last of nine children children born to Jose Rios Brown and Josefina Valladares. During the summer of 1954, the family took a trip to work in Wisconsin picking cherries, coming down towards Illinois to work in the tomatoes fields picking tomatoes. During the next 6 years, from 1955-1961, she accompanied the family to the Greeley, Colorado area where the older members of the family worked in the beet fields. This occurred from about May to September/October of each year.
EDUCATION: She attended Elementary and High School in the Crowell Independent School District (CISD) from the first through twelfth grades. She graduated in 1970. While in High School she worked for the US Government Soil Conservation Service, and helping administer typing tests for the students. She participated as a member of the Crowell Wildcat Junior Varsity basketball team for one year (that was enough). She attended Tarrant County Junior College for one year during 1971. She was working towards an Associate degree in Law Enforcement.
MILITARY: Amelia did not serve in the military. But was a military wife during her husband's service in the military.
CAREER: After deciding against college, Amelia decided to go to work in the retail industry. She worked for Best Products in Fort Worth from 197x-197x. During the time the John was in the military, she worked for the Armed Forces F___Exchange Services (AFFES) in _________. After John's return to civilian life, she worked at Motorla from 198x-198x as a _________. She decided to go back to retail and worked at Mervynn's for - years during 199x-199x. In 199x, she decided to learn the upholstery business and teamed up with her husband, John, running JH Upholstery.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: Some of her favorite activities are; decorating her apartment, reading (______), and playing poker with family.
MARRIAGE: Amelia met John Hampton in 1975, at Vandenberg AFB where he was stationed in the Air Force, and she was staying with Joe (her brother). They were married at the Crowell Assembly of God Church in Crowell, Texas on January 20, 1976. The Reverend Bobby Argo officiated at the ceremony.
CHILDREN: Amelia and John have two children.
